BIO

    Polish soprano Marcelina Román based in Barcelona, Spain,  comes from a musical family, she is a third-generation opera singer and her father is a double bass player.

She began her musical education as a cellist and then received her diploma at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław in the class of her mother, Prof. María Czechowska-Królicka. She was also a scholarship holder at the Riga Academy of Music (Prof. Lilija Greidane) and Soroptimist International. In 2018 she completed herPhD  studies.

   Her professional stage and role debut was as Violetta in La Traviata by G. Verdi, conducted by Andriy Yurkevych and staged by Karolina Sofulak, for which Marcelina won the Jan Kiepura Prize for “Female Debut of the Year.”

    Marcelina is a laureate and winner of more than 20 prizes in international competitions, among others: I  Eva Marton Voice  Competition, Hungary; IVC’s-Hertogenbosch; The Netherlands; Jāzeps Vītols Vocal Competition in Latvia; Adam Didur Singing Competition in Polonia. After her spectacular success as «Armide» J.B.Lully she was named «Operatic Revelation of Year».

     Marcelina has performed in opera houses and music halls all over the world, including Argentina, United States of America, Germany, France, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Croatia, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Ukraine.

    

     Throughout her career she has worked with several directors, conductors and trainers, including Esther de Bros, Matthew Epstein, Ricardo Estrada, Marco Evangelisti, Anthony Manoli, Maria Todaro, Reinhard Seehafer, Karolina Sofulak, Jörg Peter Weigle, David Wroe, Teresa Żylis-Gara. 

     The repertoire includes 30 roles, including: Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Pamina & First Lady (The Magic Flute), Elettra (Idomeneo) W. A. Mozart, Élisabeth de Valois (Don Carlo) G.Verdi, Halka (Halka) St. Moniuszko, Liu (Turandot), Mimi (La Bohème) G. Puccini, Micaëla (Carmen) G. Bizet, Nedda (Pagliacci) R. Leoncavallo, Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta & Stella (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) J.Offenbach, Pauline Viardot (En attendant Chopin) M. Znaniecki, Roxana (King Roger) K. Szymanowski, Ruth (Ruth, Oratorium op.50) G. Schumann,  Thaïs J.Massenet, Violetta Valery (La Traviata), Leonora (Il Trovatore) G. Verdi.

      In 2021, Marcelina released her solo album “Polish Soul” in collaboration with pianist Gilbert den Broeder, which included songs and opera arias by Polish composers.
