The stage of the Gran Teatre del Liceu hosts the concert commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Teatre Lliure
Celebrating fifty years of the Teatre Lliure is celebrating a way of understanding culture as a public service, as a meeting place and a place of freedom.
The Gran Teatre del Liceu stage hosts the commemorative concert for the fiftieth anniversary of the Teatre Lliure, a celebration that transcends the anniversary itself to become an act of living memory and collective projection. Respecting the founding values of the Teatre Lliure, we summon the spirit of the defunct Teatre Lliure Orchestra and the programs they performed. Under the direction of Josep Pons, the founder of this beloved ensemble, this concert symbolizes the meeting of two institutions that have understood art as a space of rigor, risk, and constant openness.
From its inception, the Teatre Lliure has been synonymous with an open and pluralistic spirit, faithful to the vision of Fabià Puigserver, who conceived of the stage as a shared territory, free from aesthetic hierarchies and attentive to all forms of creation. That radically contemporary idea—a theater at the service of the community, open to both tradition and avant-garde movements—continues to define the Lliure’s identity and its dialogue with society today.
Celebrating fifty years of the Teatre Lliure is to celebrate a way of understanding culture as a public service, as a place of encounter and freedom. Within the framework of the Liceu, this concert becomes both a tribute and a continuation: an affirmation that the spirit of Puigserver—open, pluralistic, and radically alive—continues to resonate with full force.
