The “Messa da Requiem” is a monumental choral and orchestral work by Giuseppe Verdi, which he composed in 1874 in memory of the poet and friend Alessandro Manzoni. It is considered a bridge between religious music and opera, and is known for its dramatic intensity and emotional power. The most famous choral section of the work, the “Dies irae,” is the musical depiction of the “Day of Wrath.” With its timpani and brass, it is considered THE musical representation of the Last Judgment.
The final concert of 2026, featuring soloists from major opera houses and the Prague orchestras under the direction of Reinhard Seehafer, presents a highly emotional masterpiece that combines sacred devotion with the dramatic expressiveness of opera.
