Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major, op. 52, MWV A 18 “Lobgesang” With this concert, GMD Jörg-Peter Weigle bids farewell as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt. In his seven years at the helm of Brandenburg’s only A-class orchestra, large-scale, artistically outstanding choral-symphonic performances have been his trademark. To conclude the concert, he will once again bring great Romantic choral symphonies to the stage with Mendelssohn’s symphony cantata “Lobgesang”. As in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, the choir and soloists have their grand entrance in the last movement, celebrating the victory of light over darkness. 10:30 Concert introduction
